Update: I have taken my K40 apart and converted it to a whole new & improved machine: the LAYZOR! Read all about this project here. Want to do the same thing to yours? Check the LAYZOR website.
This will be a short post but it is an important one.
When I disassembled the laser head in order to add my custom 3D printed laserhead thingamajig, I noticed the lens was completely covered in black ash! (Too bad I didn’t take a picture) Obviously it had suffered from not having a proper air assist before. I had no idea it could be that bad though… Luckily, it was easy enough to clean. I decided to test whether or not it would make a big difference in the cuts. And boy did it ever!
I cut the line pattern below, just to see if I could now pierce the same wood I have had so much trouble with in the past. Some lines were 1 pass, some 2 and some 3.
Now get this: all of them were clean cuts all the way through!!!(ok, except one little segment)
So tip for K40 owners: clean your lenses!

Anything special to clean them with? Just a lint free clothe? alcohol? vinegar?Water?
I wouldn’t use chemical agents, they may corrode the lens, water or cleaning product is fine i guess.
