Roger always used to say: what you do yourself you do always better! Anyways summer is coming so I worked on my outside to-do list for a change.
Last year I built a little shelter over my motorcycle’s parking spot. But I didn’t do it properly. Basically the roofing panels started to sag, then started collecting water and in the end I had to drill holes in them to prevent the whole construction from collapsing under the weight of all that trapped water. A job well done ;-).
This time around, I did it right:
Next up, the garden shed. Below you can find a ‘before’ and ‘after’ comparison, but truth be told the ‘before’ pic isn’t all that representative of the state it was in, because I took that picture with most of my stuff already taken outside. Just imagine a pile of wheelbarrows, lawn mowers, buckets, barbecues and other general garden tools stacked up to about eye level ;-).
That left wall was not load bearing anymore and was literally pulverized due to moisture and crumbling under its own weight. I put on a thick layer of waterproof cement just to even out the surface and give it back some structure. Then I plastered all around and installed some racks and tool hangers. Much better!
Last but not least, I used 2 old pallets and made a door out of them. I could have just done a straight pattern, but where’s the fun in that? Still there was very little leftover material and I really like the result. I’ll let it hang for a while because I’m sure it will sag a bit over time. Then I’ll square it up again, give it a good sanding and a nice oil finish.
All things considered a lot of hours went into this shed, but so worth it, and finally I don’t have to move literally everything out of the way so I can reach something from out back.
