I currently own 6 or 7 guitars. A few years ago I bought a set of four nice plywood wall hangers so they can be displayed on a large blank wall in my living room. But if you are a mathematical genius like me you will already have worked out that I don’t have enough hangers for the amount of guitars I own.
The thing is, these wall hangers are quite expensive, and one of my guitars (an 8-string with a wider neck) doesn’t fit the default cutout anyway. So what’s a maker to do? Make them myself obviously.
I used the CNC to cut out a bunch of profile slices out of some thick plywood/pine scraps. I cut them slightly oversized so I could route them to final dimension with a flush trim router bit.
I glued the pieces together one by one, and added some screws for good measure. As previously said, I flush trimmed each piece on the router table.
Most of the work is done by now. The plywood was pretty bad quality so I used wood putty to fill in the holes and irregularities. Now the only thing left to do is sanding the mold surfaces as smooth as they need to be.
I spray-painted the mold surfaces just to seal it all up and make it look cleaner. Doesn’t really serve a specific purpose beyond that, but hey, why not?
Oh and one last thing, there’s a slit down the middle of the smaller piece. I did that so I can wedge it and apply more pressure sideways. That’s all there is to it.
Now I need to get my hands on some veneer and start laminating!
